Overview of internal fit-out project for Co-op

Clegg Food Projects was selected by a national retailer Co-op Retail Logistics to construct and fit-out a food and drink warehouse in Birtley, County Durham.

The 225,000 sq ft food storage and distribution warehouse required an internal fit-out to make it fit for purpose. This included hygienic storage areas for frozen, chilled and ambient products with three temperature-controlled zones.

These goods have to be safely stored in readiness for distribution to Co-op shops across the north east of England. The space therefore has the capacity to hold an impressive 21,000 pallets across the three temperature-controlled zones.

The team also designed and constructed a large multi-level office and amenities complex as well as a vehicle maintenance facility on the site. This was to provide a space for servicing the retailer’s fleet of delivery vehicles.
