Our experience

The UK fresh produce sector has seen massive growth following the encouragement of eating ‘five a day’ and the success of smoothies, fruit and veg boxes, meal kits and the increased popularity of vegan and plant-based diets.

The demand for year-round fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs has really been at the forefront to drive new products. The variety of ‘ready to eat’ and ‘ready to cook’ options has also increased to meet the ever-evolving consumer, food service, and supermarket trends.

As a result, the project requirements are vast. Having worked within the sector for more than 30 years, we are the market leader for constructing fresh produce food facilities. We begin all our projects by understanding the client’s project goal.

Over the years we have worked on a variety of different projects including salad washing and packing facilities, extensions for NPD, packaging, and temperature-controlled distribution centres. Each project is unique and often needs a bespoke solution. As a result, the building requirements must suit accordingly.

Many fresh produce facilities rely on manual labour, but others are supported by complex processing equipment. We can cater for all requirements, from vertical farming and hydroponics, air temperature-controlled environments to increase ‘shelf life’ and product quality, high care finishes for fruit and vegetable preparation.

We also consider the building fabric and layout, to make sure it is considerate of the production and packaging requirements. From brand new buildings to modifying or extending existing facilities, we can help the building meet current demands of a fresh produce factory while also accommodating for future alterations.
