State-of-the-art brewery for Wells & Co

As the principal contractor, Clegg Food Projects was responsible for the construction of Wells & Co’s new multi-million-pound brewery and HQ.

Overview of the Wells & Co brewery project

Clegg Food Projects was appointed as principal contractor to deliver Brewpoint, the new state-of-the-art brewery, visitor centre and HQ for historic family-owned brewer Wells & Co.

The construction of the 20,000 sq. ft Bedfordshire-based facility started in summer 2019. The completed project brings Wells & Co’s new home together under one roof, focusing on the creation of exceptional beer along with a pub-restaurant, retail shop, coffee roastery, offices, and a visitor centre offering guided tours.

Clegg Food Project was involved in all aspects of the project – from the installation of the site’s power supply to the installation of specialist brewing equipment. The main brewing plant was designed with solar cells on the roof, solar shading, and air source heating and cooling. It is also capable of producing 30,000 hectolitres of beer each year, which is equivalent to five million pints.

The scheme continued onsite throughout lockdown and completed at the end of 2020.

After 143 years and five generations of family involvement, we didn’t embark on this lightly, but Brewpoint embodies the change of direction we have taken as a business and we couldn’t be happier with the businesses’ new home. It’s expertly designed and allows us to produce a range of beer styles that we would not have dreamed of ten years ago.
