Leveraging transferable skills in the manufacturing industry

We are undoubtedly best known in the industry for our construction projects for food & drink facilities. However, as our team secures more and more proposals outside of food manufacturing, our experience and expertise in the emerging market of technology-based and specialist manufacturing continues to grow.

Clegg has undertaken several key construction schemes across a variety of sectors over the last year, ranging from aerospace and defense to specialist technology firms, recycling companies, chemicals, medical robots, giga factories and more.

Our work within the food and drink manufacturing sector, which often includes clients with specialist equipment and process requirements, has given us the ability to tackle a variety of specific construction needs. Our appointment as the principal contractor on a project for Meggitt, the global aerospace supplier, required the complex installation of manufacturing cells in a specified sequence, something we implemented at the ambitious new supersite.

Manufacturing facilities

We also ensure that all our facilities are people and product safe, energy efficient and fit for purpose now as well as able to accommodate future process changes. For example, our work on the world’s largest  electrolyser factory for ITM Power involved the installation of specialist rooms and zones to meet the research and manufacturing requirements of the business. Not only this, but the project also required options to meet future operational needs as the company expands.
CMR medical robots

We have in-depth knowledge of the need for integrated design within construction projects and understand how to combine cutting-edge technology and innovative, future-proof design. Our recent work on the Sherbourne Recyclingsite demonstrates this, as it was the first to use AI for real-time connectivity between the main sorting equipment.

In conjunction with this, to keep the project as sustainable as possible, no earth work material has been sent to landfill and local subcontractors were used where possible to minimise the overall carbon footprint. We consider modern sustainability features as part of every build, such as our implementation of rainwater harvesting and solar panels at the CMR Surgical global robotic surgery equipment factory.

With an estimated £183 billion of output from the UK manufacturing sector in 2022, the potential for this market continues to grow and our wide-ranging construction knowledge continues to be in demand across a variety of industries beyond food and drink.

We understand that no two projects are the same and are well-equipped to deliver efficient, tailored solutions that meet any logistical and legislative challenges.
